Hi, I'm Navarre!
As a member of the Charlottesville community, I want to make sure that we're doing everything we can to combat climate change in our area. One of the best tools in our toolbox is sequestering carbon in our topsoil through appropriate land management practices. Since there isn't a lot of farmland in city limits, some of the other ways we can help improve our local environment include depaving, installing rain gardens, and planting native plants.
As a Director for the Thomas Jefferson Soil & Water Conservation District, I represent you as the District implements conservation programs in the city and surrounding counties. One of the duties of the board is to suggest legislation for the General Assembly, so I will be working with my fellow directors to develop Healthy Soils legislation to present to the General Assembly so that farmers can get paid for doing their part to address climate change.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me so I could serve on the board.
And no, I do not support the pipeline. We don't make any decisions related to it through the District, but I don't think we need climate change accelerating stranded assets tearing up the soil and water of the Commonwealth.
